We have just returned from Buenos Aires from the ALOGIA Congress where the Argentinian Society of PAG (SAGIJ) also celebrated its 50th birthday. The Congress was brilliantly organised, was excellent from the scientific and social perspective and was a great success overall finally enabling us to meet after the pandemic. It was also wonderful to join the celebrations of the anniversary of SAGIJ.
During the Congress three Honorary Fellowships of FIGIJ were awarded.
TRIBUTE TO DRS. JOSÉ ENRIQUE PONS, RAMIRO MOLINA CARTÉS AND JOSE MARIA MENDEZ RIBAS (Spanish Translation Below)
As President of the FIGIJ Board, I have the great pleasure of awarding the FIGIJ Honorary Fellowship to three of the greatest figures of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology in Latin America.
The Doctors:
Ramiro Molina Cartés from Chile
José Enrique Pons from Uruguay,
and José Maria Mendez Ribas from Argentina.
Only a brief summary of each one would not be enough to express the contributions they have provided and continue to provide to the Integral Health of Adolescents in general and Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology in particular; in their respective countries, in the Americas region and in the rest of the world.
Many of the characteristics of their professional actions are common to all three:
Ability and professionalism in the exercise of their medical duties,
The eagerness for teaching in the respective Schools of Medicine,
The participation in the Academies and Universities of their respective countries, their articles written with scientific rigor, their professional experience, their teaching vocation, and the multiplicity of conferences and round tables where they participated for years and that today thanks to new technologies we can still appreciate.
The eagerness and passion to work with girls, adolescents and young people is typical of these three great masters and it is through this eagerness that each of them from the spaces that are their own were able to contribute the essential creativity to obtain achievements in the prevention, care and recovery of the integral health of this particular group.
The three new honorary Fellows brought Latin America to the FIGIJ Board in the 1990s. They need little introduction.
Dr. Ramiro Molina Cartés, has held diverse positions within Gynecology in general and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology in particular. At the University Hospital of Santiago he founded and chaired the “Center for Reproductive Medicine and Integral Development of Adolescents”, a clinical department specifically dedicated to assisting and supporting pregnant adolescents.
Given his professional prestige he was summoned to integrate the Academy of Medicine of his country.
At FIGIJ, and with Professor Creatsas, he co-founded the IFEPAG exam, being its President for about a decade.
During his presidency, the IFEPAG exam became increasingly important, many sessions were organized and the number of IFEPAG fellows grew rapidly.
He was president of the FIGIJ from 2007 to 2010 when he dedicated himself to the legal redefinition of the Federation and the updating of its Statutes.
During WCPAG 2007 in São Paulo he launched the association of Fellows or IFA, with the aim of bringing together IFEPAG Fellows to further improve the practice of child and adolescent gynecology in the world and among young people.
A cultured and sensitive man and leader in decision-making, Professor Ramiro Molina Cartes is a milestone in the history of FIGIJ and the world of pediatric and adolescent gynecology worldwide, to whom we are all very grateful.
I am also delighted to include a true personal friend Dr. José Enrique Pons who also defines himself as a dilettante historian, but it is through a deep historical recognition that allows us to understand the present and also evaluate the future. One of his books “Parirás con ayuda”, allows us to interpret the birth process throughout history. His classes and presentations, open to a wide cultural and artistic spectrum, motivate us to always undertake new and original paths. His work at the Academy of Medicine of his country allowed him to transmit this imprint onto other medical specialties.
He was one of the founders of SUGIA and a great promoter of gynecology of childhood and adolescence in Uruguay, as well as in the region, He was part of the ALOGIA Board for many years, and is an honorary member.
Quique has been deputy director of IFEPAG, vice president of FIGIJ and a former member of the Board of Directors of FIGIJ for three terms during the presidencies of Drs. Apter, Molina and Rome. Thank you very much on behalf of FIGIJ.
Dr. José María Mendez Ribas has been a tireless defender of pediatric and adolescent gynecology, through his treatises, and his devotion and tireless teaching work in undergraduate and graduate education, through multiple courses and various training, has contributed to informing future generations. He has been president of IFEPAG and member of the Board of FIGIJ. In 2001 he was Co-president of the World Congress of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology held in Argentina. He was, together with other professionals, the creator of the Adolescence Program of the Hospital de Clínicas and in 2005 he created the Training Program in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology of the SAGIJ where many of the specialists in the field of Latin America are trained.
Fully committed to interdisciplinary work, he has put this into practice in his daily work. His presence in various societies of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology has not only promoted their development but also their integration with other similar societies. A true leader in his field, we salute Jose Maria.
Three teachers with their own personalities, solid knowledge, different experiences in their medical work but each of them in their own way passionate about their vocation of service. Three founders of ALOGIA in 1993 with José María as its first president.
Today during this Congress of the Argentine and Latin American Societies of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, we express our recognition and gratitude through this tribute.

HOMENAJE A LOS DRES. JOSÉ ENRIQUE PONS, RAMIRO MOLINA CARTÉS Y JOSE MARIA MENDEZ RIBAS
Como Presidente de la Comisión directiva de FIGIJ tengo el enorme placer de otorgar el Fellowship honorario de FIGIJ a tres de las más grandes figuras de la ginecología infanto-juvenil en Latinoamérica.
Los Doctores:
Ramiro Molina Cartés de Chile
José Enrique Pons de Uruguay,
y José Maria Mendez Ribas de Argentina.
Solamente un breve resumen de cada uno no alcanzaría para poder expresar los aportes que brindaron y continúan brindando a la Salud Integral de la Adolescencia en general y de la Ginecología Infanto-Juvenil en particular; en sus respectivos países, en la región de las Américas y en el resto del mundo.
Muchas de las características de su actuar profesional son comunes a los tres:
La capacidad y profesionalismo en el ejercicio de sus tareas médicas,
El afán por la docencia en las respectivas Escuelas de Medicina,
La participación en las Academias y Universidades de sus respectivos países, sus artículos escritos con rigor científico, su experiencia profesional, su vocación docente, y la multiplicidad de conferencias y mesas redondas donde participaron desde hace años y que hoy gracias a las nuevas tecnologías aún podemos seguir aprovechando.
El afán y la pasión por trabajar con niñas, adolescentes y jóvenes es propio de estos tres grandes maestros y es a través de este afán que cada uno de ellos desde los espacios que les son propios pudieron aportar la creatividad imprescindible para obtener logros en la prevención, atención y recuperación de la Salud Integral de este grupo tan particular.
Los tres nuevos Fellows honorarios trajeron Latinoamérica a la Junta Directiva de FIGIJ en los años 90. Necesitan poca presentación.
El Dr. Ramiro Molina Cartés, ha ocupado los más diversos cargos dentro de la Ginecología en general y la Infanto Juvenil en particular. En el Hospital Universitario de Santiago fundó y presidió el “Centro de Medicina Reproductiva y Desarrollo Integral del Adolescente”, un departamento clínico dedicado específicamente a asistir y apoyar a adolescentes embarazadas.
Debido a su prestigio profesional fue convocado a integrar la Academia de Medicina de su país.
En FIGIJ, con el profesor Creatsas cofundó el examen IFEPAG, siendo su presidente durante aproximadamente una década.
Durante su presidencia, el examen IFEPAG se hizo cada vez más importante, se organizaron muchas sesiones y el número de becarios IFEPAG creció rápidamente.
Fue presidente de la FIGIJ de 2007 a 2010 cuando se dedicó a la redefinición jurídica de la Federación y a la actualización de sus Estatutos.
Durante el WCPAG 2007 de Sao Paulo lanzó la IFEPAG, la asociación de los Fellows o IFA, con el objetivo de reunir a los IFEPAG Fellows para mejorar aún más la práctica de la ginecología infanto-juvenil en el mundo y entre los jóvenes.
Hombre culto y sensible y líder en la toma de decisiones, el profesor Ramiro Molina Cartes es un hito en la historia de FIGIJ y del mundo de ginecología infanto-juvenil mundial, a quien todos estamos muy agradecidos.
También estoy encantado de incluir a un verdadero amigo personal el Dr. José Enrique Pons que se autodefine asimismo como un historiador diletante, pero es a través de un profundo reconocimiento histórico que nos permite comprender, aunque sea un poco mejor el presente y evaluar asimismo el futuro. Uno de sus libros “Parirás con ayuda”, permite interpretar el proceso del parto a través de la historia. Sus clases y presentaciones, abiertas a un amplio espectro cultural y artístico nos motiva a emprender siempre nuevos y originales caminos. Su trabajo en la Academia de Medicina de su país le permitió poder transmitir esta impronta en otras especialidades médicas.
Fue uno de los fundadores de SUGIA y gran impulsor de la ginecología de la infancia y la adolescencia en Uruguay , así como también en la región , formo parte durante muchos años de la Directiva de ALOGIA , y es miembro de honor de la misma.
Quique ha sido vicedirector de IFEPAG, vicepresidente de FIGIJ y un antiguo miembro del Consejo de Administración de FIGIJ durante tres mandatos durante las presidencias de los doctores Apter, Molina y Rome. Muchas gracias en nombre de FIGIJ.
El Dr. José María Mendez Ribas ha sido un defensor incansable de la ginecología infanto-juvenil, a través de sus tratados, y su devoción y incansable trabajo docente en la educación en el pre y postgrado, a través de múltiples cursos y diversas capacitaciones, ha contribuido a formar generaciones futuras. Ha sido presidente de IFEPAG y miembro del Consejo de Administración de FIGIJ. En 2001 fue copresidente del congreso mundial de la ginecología infanto-juvenil celebrado en Argentina. Fue junto a otros profesionales el creador del Programa de Adolescencia del Hospital de Clínicas y en 2005 Creo el programa de Formación en ginecología Infarto Juvenil de la SAGIJ donde se forman la mayor parte de los especialista en la materia de Latinoamérica
Plenamente comprometido con el trabajo interdisciplinario, lo ha puesto en la práctica en su quehacer diario. Desde su presencia en diversas sociedades de Ginecología Infanto Juvenil no solo ha promovido el desarrollo de las mismas sino su integración con otras sociedades similares. Un verdadero líder en su campo, saludamos a José María.
Tres maestros con personalidades propias, conocimientos sólidos, experiencias diferentes en su quehacer médico pero cada uno de ellos a su manera apasionados por su vocación de servicio. Tres fundadores de ALOGIA en 1993 con José María como primer presidente.
Hoy en este Congreso de la Sociedad Argentina y Latinoamericana de Ginecología Infanto Juvenil, manifestamos nuestro reconocimiento y agradecimiento a través del presente homenaje.
Gracias Dres. Mendez Ribas, Pons, y Molina, agradecemos en nombre de quienes se han formado cerca de ustedes y de todos los y las niñas, adolescentes y jóvenes a quienes han podido acompañar e inspirar para lograr un mundo mejor
